How do I increase my strength?

Someone gave me a sword that requires more strength than I have. How do I raise my strength to the requirement?

• You can increase your strength by fighting with melee weapons and gathering. Mining and chopping trees will raise your strength. Make sure you have enough free attribute points. If not, you can pretty the little red icon next to a stat that you don't mind decreasing a bit to the minus sign.
